“It is an honour to be with you all today, to witness and celebrate the opening of the LotoSamasoni Project”, Prime Minister Tuilaepa Dr.Sailele Malielegaoi at the Opening Ceremony for the LotoSamasoni Project, on 8th November 2019.
The Project has utilized the first of four bailey bridges kindly donated by the Government of Australia. The total project cost is SAT $2.6 million. The Government of Samoa extends its gratitude to the Government of Australia for its continuous support; not only financially but the capacity building given through this project.
This crossing will allow traffic to flow directly from our 4 lanes Vaitele Street and Cross Island Road. It will take the traffic load when the Lelata Bridge closes down for reconstruction in the near future. The addition of this crossing will assist in distributing our traffic along our main roads and significantly decreases traveling times for the public. The new bridge crossing will also enable the local communities including students to nearby schools to cross the river safely.
The design of the new road and crossing was carried out by the teams at the Ministry of Works, Transport & Infrastructure together with the Land Transport Authority. This project was awarded to King Construction for the contract price of SAT $1.9 million. The re-phasing of the Traffic Lights at the Malifa 4-Corners was implemented by Vaganā Engineering Electrical Solutions.
